1) Lions Lions used to be common in the forests of Israel. There have not been wild lions in Israel since the 11th century AD. 2) Lizard A green lizard getting warm in the sun. Normally it lives in green vegetation, where it is virtually invisible. 3) Lizard The large dabb-lizard is called 'crocodile of the desert', though it is a harmless and shy herbivore. 4) Locusts In the lower photograph we see the fruitful fig tree of the upper photograph after an attack by locusts. 5) Moth The oleander sphix-moth is one of the larger moths of Israel. 6) Little Owl The Little Owl, the commonest owl in Israel. Owls were often associated with ghosts and demons, probably because of their nocturnal habits.
